Progress made to date

2020-2024

In the process of acquiring 30 additional acres of land, 20 acres for reforestation with 20,000 trees and 10 acres for commercial diary and other integrated farm activities to provide sustainable income to farm(on going project).

Completed

  • Planted 30,000 trees, fostering a lush ecosystem and providing a sustainable source for timber, wood fuel and fruits. Our primary target is to plant 100,000 trees of various species.
  • Constructed a 1-million-gallon capacity valley water pond to support irrigation, livestock, fish farming and community water needs.
  • Established intensive crop agriculture under solar powered irrigation, improving the capability to yield a diverse range of vegetables and fruits of domestic and commercial value all year round. We have established a 3 acre, 2000 plant commercial passion fruits orchard
  • Initiated an improved breed livestock program promoting quality meat and dairy production. We have over 150 Boer cross goats and 25 heads of cattle.
  • Introduced beekeeping, enhancing pollination for improved crop yields and honey.

Planned Projects (the next 5-7 years)

2024-2028

Reforestation

  • Reforest over 220 acres as part of model farm with over 100,000 trees of various species, expanding the green canopy and sustain wood, timber and tree fruit production under an integrated agroforestry model. Our target is to plant over 10,000 trees on farm annually.
  • Establish a community tree nursery to raise, natural and clonal trees, fruit, vegetable and medicinal herb seedlings.

Farm Infrastructure

  • Drill for a high capacity deep well to supplement the valley pond with safe water for farm use and irrigation.
  • Construct suitable storage units for farm supplies (tools, seeds, vaccines, drugs), harvested crop and animal fodder.
  • Expand solar power capabilities at farm to enable use of power tools, cold chain storage and IT equipment.
  • Buy a farm tractor and attachment implements for cultivation, planting, harvesting and post-harvest tasks.
  • Construct accommodation, training, and dining facilities for trainees, interns and farm visitors.

Livestock

  • Breed over 2,000 high-value goats, 100 dairy cattle, poultry and other animals for breeding stocks, meat and dairy. Local farmers will be able to access our improved breed bucks, does and bulls to improve their local breeds.
  • Establish retail outlets for healthy and quality livestock, dairy and poultry products generating income and creating employment.

Farm Education/Extension Services

  • Provide internship, training to various categories of local farmers, students on best practices in livestock, crop, apiary and forestry.
  • Construct accommodation, training, and dining facilities for trainees, interns and farm visitors.
  • Establish a community youth scholarship program for environment, forest, livestock and human sciences.

Initiative Opportunities

  • High demand for tree products; timber, utility poles and wood fuel make project financially viable and profitable for long term sustainability.
  • Ability to maximize the benefits of agroforestry using irrigation and animal manure to grow commercially high value fruits and vegetables.
  • Model provides for Job creation and skill development for local youths, contributing to poverty reduction.
  • Model is highly adaptable and scalable for wider impact on income, food, energy, and environmental conservation.
